Easy Clean Seating (Outside)
On the 25th of June 2020 the government announced The Business and Planning Bill bringing simplification and cost reduction for the licensing process for outdoor seating, used in converted external areas. Effectively making it easier for people to safely drink and dine outside. The Business and Planning Bill will allow hospitality businesses to convert car parks and terraces into temporary beer gardens and use pavements to extend their seating capacity. Café Reality explored the potential changes that this Bill could bring for pubs, cafes and restaurants in our Al fresco Britain article.
Additional outside seating will certainly help businesses who have been worried about reopening whilst adhering to social distancing measures. With more outdoor seating available, business owners must take into consideration the practicalities of each piece of furniture and ask themselves if it’s suitable for outside use? Is it weatherproof? Will it be easy to clean? Is it easy to bring inside at closing times?
Adapting to ‘the new normal’ will be a challenge for hospitality industry and it should go without saying that outdoor furniture should, now, be easy to clean, practical and appeal both in terms of aesthetics and comfort to returning customers.
In line with our top 8 ‘Easy clean’ indoor seating options we have compiled a list of popular and some of the latest ‘Easy clean’ outdoor seating options.

Given that dining and drinking outside in the UK will now be a more exciting, as well as safe way to socialise, your outdoor furniture will need to stand out from the competition more than ever. Apart from the menu itself, first impressions usually include the ‘look and feel’ of outdoor dining areas and outdoor furniture. The Tolix chair is has always been a favourite with Industrial and stripped back cafes as they have a vintage feel.
Despite the metal appearance they are in fact surprisingly comfortable however, we also offer an added leather seat cushion for extra comfort. Traditionally these chairs were available only in gunmetal grey but can now be sprayed in any RAL colour, making them a great choice for the more design conscious cafes and eateries.
4. Rattan Effect Outdoor Furniture
Rattan furniture is traditionally made from weaving species of palm together which grown in South East Asia. Synthetic rattan use materials like plastic and resin makes them weather resistant, lasting up to 20 years outdoors, even if left out all winter. Synthetic rattan is easy to clean and maintain and it’s generally recommended to dust and vacuum with an upholstery brush once a week to prevent any soil build up in the weaving. A more thorough damp clean should be done monthly and any food and drink or stains should be cleaned away immediately with a damp cloth.
The Londi Comfort Outdoor weave armchair is available in black or brown weave and comes assembled and ready to use. The Londi chair is favored in many outdoor settings due to it being comfortable and lightweight. Additionally, it is easy to clean and maintain and the metal foot caps prevent the weave from coming loose. The matching Londi outdoor weave side chair also has some of the same features and can be stacked up to 6 high, ideal for quick turnarounds and seating reconfigurations at short notice.

6. Angelica Vintage cross back chair.
If you are looking to create an al fresco atmosphere, you need look no further than the Angelica Vintage cross back chairs. These chairs are traditionally made of wood and can often be seen in the cafes and bars in the little back streets of quaint coastal towns in the Mediterranean. Here in the UK however we cannot always rely on the climate, so we need to prepare against the elements by swapping out wood and wicker for lightweight aluminum, whilst still retaining an element of charm.
7. Recycled street furniture
We are currently working with a factory partner who is making a contribution towards improving the environment by manufacturing outdoor furniture from recycled materials; mainly plastics. They are creating some interesting urban street seating designs whilst preventing plastic going to landfill. In fact, it takes the equivalent of 2000 plastic bottles to make one bench. The Parthenia range is all made from recycled plastic and is hygienic and easy to clean.
Recycled plastic is a low maintenance, environmentally friendly alternative to timber. It has the appearance of wood with the advantage of plastic making it the ideal material for outdoor furniture in urban and park environments.
Take a look at some of our new recycled range seating – hopefully coming to a street near you.
