The use of metal for both indoor and outdoor furniture has been noted since around the 1920s. However, during the next few decades the production of metal furniture was halted by the ongoing wars until the 1950s when a new consumer society began to emerge. In addition to tubular steel the use of aluminium gained popularity alongside wire mesh and thin legs and many distinctive mid-century furniture pieces began to emerge.
Since then, aluminium has fast become a favourite due to its many properties that endow it with a wide range of advantages as a furniture material. Aluminium is lightweight meaning it can be moved around easily, yet it maintains its durability and strength and is well known for its resistance to corrosion and rust. Due to this resistance aluminium is perfect for outdoor garden furniture as it is weather proof and can withstand different ranges of temperature.
Over time the technique used in making aluminium furniture has evolved making it possible to create a wide variety of designs and styles which includes intricate detailing. Thus, new designs are ongoing and can be built to suit a wide variety of commercial applications.
As it is durable, non-rusting and easy to maintain aluminium makes a great material for table bases used both indoors and outdoors. We offer a wide range of bases for use with a variety of table tops. For any information or help with space planning contact our design team who will be happy to help with the process. We offer free delivery on many of our items.
